How accurate is WeatherWeGo?
Every route forecast we show is logged: the temperature, precipitation, and risk score we predicted for a checkpoint at the hour you would be there. Once that hour has passed, we fetch the observation from the nearest National Weather Service station and compare. The numbers below are the last 30 days, grouped by how far ahead the forecast was.
Temperature error is the mean absolute difference between our forecast and the observed temperature at the nearest station.
Precipitation hit rate is how often we were right about whether it was raining or snowing at that hour.
Hazard detection is the share of hours with real hazards (snow, ice, heavy rain, low visibility, strong wind) that we had scored moderate or worse. False alarm rate is the share of our moderate-or-worse calls where no hazard was observed.
Stations can be miles from the road and report once an hour, so some error is measurement, not forecast. We publish it anyway.
